Fourth Grade

Welcome to Fourth Grade!

This is the year when the students are challenged to have a better overall understanding of the Spanish language.  The students will be working in depth on basic verb conjugation, and putting together concepts and vocabulary from the previous years.  They will be working hard, but hopefully have terrific results! We will be reading through an early reader in Spanish this year as an enrichment for additional exposure for the language.

Our central idea for the year is:

Students' daily routines can have similarities and differences.

Our first unit of the year is titled, "My life as a student".  Students compare the culture of schools in Spanish-speaking countries with their own.  We learn vocabulary for the items we use in class, subjects we study, and places we go in the school.

In the second trimester, we work in the unit titled, "What I do in my Free Time." This unit is followed by our last unit called, "The World I Live In." Students learn vocabulary for places around our community, and vocabulary for favorite activities. They'll be introduced to the conjugation of verbs in order to discuss where they go and what they do there. These are big units, and therefore, they'll be our focus throughout the winter.

Most student work will be collected in journals or folders, which stay in the Spanish classroom. Assignments included might be: reflections, cultural wonderings, observations, or questions, quick-writes in Spanish, short answer responses in Spanish, or vocabulary for reference.

I'm looking forward to a great year with these students!
