Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten!

What a fun group of students I get to hang out with each week!  These students are enthusiastic learners who work hard and play hard in Spanish class.  Kindergarten Spanish will lay a foundation for the years ahead with an exposure to the different sights and sounds of letters and words.  However, many of the Kindergarten students are able to pick up the language quickly and can put it into practice.  Students with a previous background in Spanish will also have opportunities for speaking, reading, and creating with the language.

The Spanish class at this level includes songs, games, books, fun group activities, TPRS, and creative assignments.  I use whatever I can to help these students feel comfortable with the language.  The Poudre School District motto for Elementary Spanish is:

Gain the Ear, and Lose the Fear

Students who are beginning to learn a language need to hear it being used.  It is normal for new language learners to be in a 'silent phase' as they first get accustomed to the vocabulary.  Kinder students are also adjusting to a new school and new expectations. With that being said, my focus is on having fun while we learn, and building confidence with our new skills.

When your child is ready, encourage him or her to practice at home. It is important that they hear their own unique voice speaking Spanish. The first few weeks will be practicing our names and introductions, greetings, and learning about the Spanish classroom.

In the first trimester we learn greetings, titles, and colors. Basically, we are learning about the language and how to use it. The students are introduced to quite a bit of vocabulary during this time. We sing songs, read/act out stories, and practice our Spanish in class.  We also learn and practice body vocabulary, and take regular brain breaks.  (We learn Spanish AND have fun.)  I am so glad to have the students in class with me!

Next, we move to a unit learning fruit vocabulary, and combining the vocabulary with colors for additional practice.  We will be reading simple stories with these vocabulary words, and playing games to reinforce what's learned in class.  I will update this page at the beginning of 2023 with the remaining units for the year.

Be patient as your child settles in.  It takes time!  I look forward to working with these students, and getting to know them as the year progresses.

Welcome to Bennett!
